Vachiratharn Waterfalls

Although Chiang Mai is famous in its mountains and hot springs, it also has an abundance of waterfalls; some of them are highly recommended. Wachiratharn is one of a great example. Standing at a height of 80 meters and 15 meters wide, Vachiratharn is large waterfall near Chiang Mai city, producing a colorful rainbow from its spray and attracts tourists in a summer day.


How to get there:
The waterfall is located in the area of Doi Inthanon National Park, away from the city about 81.2 kilometers. Follow the Route 108 from Chiang Mai and then turn right to Route 1009 at the kilometers of 58 between the town of Khuang Pao and Chom Thong, going along the way until you reach to Vachiratharn Waterfalls.

If you are from other parts of Thailand and thinking of spending your vacation up in the North, Doi Inthanon is one of the notable tourist attractions, and is considered the highest mountain in Thailand.

Directions
Doi Inthanon is situated about two and a half hours drive from Chiang Mai city. In order to get the Doi Inthanon, drive down the highway 108 towards Chom Thong. Then, follow the signs on the road to Doi Inthanon. For the entry fee to the national park, foreigners are supposed to pay 400 THB, and 40 THB for Thai people.

Doi Inthanon Chiang Mai

With a great height of 2565 meters, Doi Inthanon is known as the tallest mountain in Thailand. Primarily, Doi Inthanon was called Doi Luang referring to its gigantic peak and Doi Ang Ka or “crow pond peak” because there was once a pond frequently visited by crows on th peak of the mountain.


A new name of Doi Inthanon was given as a honor to King Inthawichayanon, whose name was locally called as King Inthanon. Before Lanna Kingdom was merged into Siam, King Inthawichayanon was the seventh ruler of Chiang Mai's last dynasty. He showed a great concern for forest before any green movement launched and that makes him an environmentalist of the early-day.
